The
smart home demonstrator was conceived on the basis of the Wise
Homes developed in the United Kingdom. The purpose of a Smart
home demonstrator is to provide a real home like environment to
display assistive technologies. Visitors can activate and use
the technologies and gain a greater understanding of how the
technologies can be applied and see them in operation.
The
QSHI Phase 1 demonstrator was launched by Minister Robertson at
Blue Care Kenmore in April 2007. During the 12-months of
operation the demonstrator hosted over 230 visitors from
Australia and overseas. Visitors were able to see first hand in
a home environment how assistive technology can be integrated to
support community care programs. Training sessions for care
coordinators and occupational therapists and health care
professionals were also provided. A special thanks to Blue Care
who kindly loaned the use of an apartment at Iona Kenmore for
the 12 month program.
